KIDS FISHING CLINIC

The Wisconsin Council of Sport Fishing Organization and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources host Kids Fishing Clinics which are held throughout Milwaukee Count every spring.  The Mill Pond along with other Milwaukee county ponds are stocked every spring by the Hose of Correction Hatchery.

FRIENDS OF THE MILL POND & OAK CREEK WATERCOURSE, INC. sponsor one of these annual fishing events at the Mill Pond each spring.  The Kids Fishing Clinic that we hold is primarily for children 15 years of age and younger to responsibly learn about the sport of fishing, different techniques that are used and safety.  Volunteers to help guide the children for these public clinics are always welcome.

OAK CREEK WATERCOURSE CLEAN UP

FRIENDS OF THE MILL POND & OAK CREEK WATERCOURSE, INC. annually schedule a spring and fall cleanup of the watercourse.

Volunteers from our organization along with occasional help from others such as the South Milwaukee Middle School (teacher and students), DNR Game Wardens, and concerned members of the community diligently work together to clean trash and debris from selected areas along the watercourse.  Some of the items previously found (along with common trash)and removed are:  shopping carts, a plastic slide, a pay phone, tires, tire rims, crutches, bike tires, batteries, assorted balls and toys, a tricycle, a couch, a canoe, fire extinguisher, jacket, container of oil, misc. pieces of plywood, and a street barricade.

Clean up usually starts around 8 am and ends around 12 noon.  Our thanks to all who participate in this event.  With everyone pitching in to help in the community, we can make a difference!

FRIENDS OF THE MILL POND & OAK CREEK WATERCOURSE, INC. provide safety vests, bags, bottled water and vinyl gloves to participants.  Volunteers are urged to bring tall boots if they have them.
